Kansas loses NEA matching grants as arts funding ends
The National Endowment for the Arts will not provide matching federal grants to Kansas this year because the state no longer funds its arts program. Gov. Sam Brownback vetoed state aid to the Kansas Arts Commission, leaving it with no budget or staff. NEA spokeswoman Victoria Hutter said Kansas’ withdrawal prevented federal support for the new fiscal year. Previously Kansas invested about $700,000 annually to secure around $1.3 million in external arts grants.
