GOP Liberals Push Dissent at Platform Hearings
In Miami Beach, a few voices challenged the GOP platform draft as liberal opponents urged withdrawal from Vietnam busing to desegregate and legalized marijuana. Sen Jacob Javits urged decriminalizing small quantities of marijuana and ending active U.S. participation in the Vietnam War. Women delegates led by Shirley Temple Black demanded equal roles for women and urged ER A ratification. The Rules Committee considers a change to require equal representation at GOP conventions.
