Tightened rules set for land set aside payments
The Agriculture Department will tighten how payments are computed for land removed from production under 1973 crop programs. Farmers must set aside land of similar quality or face reduced government payments. Deductions will rise when adjustments are needed to reflect set aside intent, with low quality acreage set aside affecting wheat and feed grains payments. Cotton deductions will match wheat and grains.
