Conservation notes describe grassed waterways as erosion control in fields with permanent grass cover. The Soil Conservation Service prepares plans by surveying land and soils to place waterways optimally, with SCS technicians guiding site selection, shaping, seeding, and fertilization. The Agriculture Conservation Program helps cover about 80 percent of shaping and seeding costs.
MANHATTAN AP Four new directors have been named by the Kansas Vocational Agriculture Association. They are Don Brock Highland Park John Davis Altoona James Grider Tribune and Robert Severance Simpson. Holdover directors are Ormand Breeden Quinter Chris Langvardt Wamego and Norman Terrill Partridge. President James A McCain of Kansas State University told the more than 209 vocational agriculture teachers at their annual state conference that the skills they are teaching in this country now are being taught.
C. C. Eustace reports 195 departments of vocational agriculture in the state with 6,303 boys enrolled. He notes improved farming methods feed more hungry people worldwide and frames the skills as a weapon in the cold war.
