KC voters back Richards Gebaur freight center plan
In Kansas City, Missouri voters favored a major Richards Gebaur Airport freight center proposal by about 2000 votes. Approval would permit a 50 year land lease with the Port Authority and enable Kansas City Southern Railway to develop parts of the airport as an intermodal hub. Opponents warned of private gain and neighborhood impact while supporters cited potential trade gains with Mexico and a way to curb losses. Unofficial results also pointed to higher motel hotel tax, new permit fee rights, and charter amendments to broaden business licensing oversight.

KDHE Tightens Waste Lagoon Rules For Hog Farms
Kansas regulators require hog operations with more than 10 000 animals to line manure pits with plastic to protect groundwater. The move targets Wichita area drinking water but faces opposition from hog producers who say the rule is unjustified and unnecessary. Community leaders worry mid sized farms near sand soils also threaten water supplies across Equus Beds and Big Bend districts.
