4-H'er Linda Peckham Tours Washington D C

Linda Peckham, one of 45 Kansas 4-H'ers from 30 counties, joined the Citizenship Short Course at the National 4-H Center in Washington D C. The trip included stops in St Louis Columbus Gettysburg and Mount Vernon with tours of the Capitol Library of Congress White House and National Archives. She helped produce a reportage on international affairs and economics and noted the group tended toward conservatism and that the trip was fantastic and should be available to every 4 H kid.

Injury Forces Local Scout Home From Canoe Trip

Tab White, one of 14 Ottawa Explorer Scouts from Post 207, returned from a month long Canada canoe trek after a back injury. While carrying a 70 to 90 pound food pack, he stepped in a hole, fell, and later collapsed. Helpers built a stretcher, paddled 15 miles to a nursing station, then Tab was transported to Winnipeg for treatment. Doctors diagnosed a sprained back and strained muscles, with bed rest advised. He flew home to Kansas City for convalescence and hopes to rejoin next year.
