Franklin County Planning Director Don Slone said Ottawa staff oppose a special use permit to house Community Corrections in the Crestview Nursing Home. County commissioners want the request to move forward, arguing the site would be less disruptive than a nursing home. If city rejects the plan, the county may sell the building and proceed with an alternative school site next year.

City commissioners and staff backed keeping soil piles on the old middle school property while demolition permit appeals proceed. A June 5 preliminary hearing is set, with a final decision likely by late July or August. Mayor Finch and two commissioners urged voluntary nuisance controls, while one commissioner resisted.
