Wall Street ends noon with Dow under 9000 for first time in weeks

At noon on Wall Street the Dow fell 146.48 to 8918.14 while the S and P 500 dropped 22.20 to 1085.70 and the Nasdaq slid 49.33 to 1819.63. The NYSE composite lost 11.28 to 563.19 and the AMEX declined 13.10 to 728.76. Local quotes show grains and stocks moving lower with county grain prices posted.

Hoffa cleared to run for Teamsters presidency by monitor

A court-appointed monitor cleared James P. Hoffa to seek the Teamsters presidency but barred a key aide from participating. Election officer Michael Cherkasky cited misconduct in several cases yet found most Hoffa campaign contributions from lawful sources. Several Hoffa state members were fined for rule violations and the campaign was fined for in-kind services. The ruling assigns personal responsibility to Hoffa for misreported donations.

Bishop Gerardi Killed After Rights Report in Guatemala City
