Kansas Power and Light Co will add a 36 cent monthly surcharge on its 280000 customers through February 1987 to cover 5.5 million in ice storm damages. The Kansas Corporation Commission approved 5 million for storm costs and 500000 for interest, plus 2 million for Hutchinson line damage from a recent storm. No Call In Classification Huddle In Topeka
A six member Kansas conference panel failed to reach a compromise on a proposed property classification amendment aimed at equalizing statewide real estate appraisal methods. The committee plans another session midweek to try to win two thirds support in both chambers before the 1985 session ends. The plan uses use value for agricultural land and partial exemptions, with debates on whether to use a constitutional percentage or future legislature's decision. TOPEKA AP reports additional Senate changes included new members named to the Legislative Educational Planning Committee and a 10 percent budget increase for legislative leaders' staffs.
