Inventor Taps Kansas Winds for Home Generated Power
Kansas wind pioneer Leo Bircher leads Bircher Machine in Kanopolis producing EMI Wind Electric Systems. The BMI 671 three blade turbine generates 220 volt AC, starts at 11 mph, peaks at 29 mph, and feathers in over 40 mph. Systems sell excess power to utilities and are eligible for tax credits, reducing cost. One installation near Lindsborg netted 389 kilowatts in a month with 243 sold back to the utility.
