Superconducting tape breakthrough teased by Los Alamos team
Government scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory unveiled a flexible superconducting tape described at a San Francisco meeting. The metal ceramic tape, less than an inch wide, could carry over 1 million amperes per square centimeter, vastly increasing current capacity and enabling more efficient power lines, levitating trains, and compact MRI devices, with cautious notes that this is a further step in ongoing superconductivity progress.
