Train strike buckles buggy and man walks away unhurt
In April 1914 John Dyer, 77, Baldwin, was thrown from a buggy at First and Main when Missouri Pacific passenger train No. 3 struck it. Dyer rose, dusted off, and smiled he was not hurt. Costigan tried to stop the horses but they crossed the tracks and the engine driver slowed the train. The buggy hit the bag station as the horses stood near the Occidental Hotel. A passenger, Costigan, held the reins and was not thrown. The Semple Sanitarium, started 20 years ago by Mrs. Etta Semple who died Saturday, might become a general hospital or perhaps a private institution. multiple proposals were discussed.

Ottawa University to Raise New Gym and City Upgrades
The first work on a new $30,000 gymnasium at Ottawa University began with relocating the old frame gym to a nearby site for use as a barn and storehouse. Washburn and Sons drew the plans. City officials, Har ris and Parker, sworn in, plan to pursue bond forfeitures from 1908 regarding Kansas City and Rawlings interurban lines to claim $1,000 in bonds. A Silo Day event at Franklin County Courthouse drew large crowds showcasing silos from wood to tin models and ensilage cutters. In Juarez, Mexico, federal defeat at San Pedro in Coahuila led to heavy casualties and prisoners.
