Space station railcar girders on track in first spacewalk
Two astronauts bolted and wired a 44 foot girder to the international space station during an eight hour spacewalk aboard Atlantis. Erik Smith and Rex Walheim installed two V shaped struts, connected power lines, and readied a railcar track for a $190 million cargo car as part of a $600 million framework. NASA called it an excellent start ahead of three more spacewalks and resembled a landmark step for the station’s expanding solar wings and experiments.
