Three Kansas issues linger after adjournment in session
The Legislature left three major items unresolved after adjournment: continuation of the Kansas Lottery, a 3.5 percent raise for state employees, and a cut in motor vehicle taxes. House Speaker Tim Shallenburger and Minority Leader Tom Sawyer framed the session as fiscally cautious and contentious, with notable laws enacted on sales tax repeal and unemployment tax relief, while tax-cut plans for cars failed to gain House support.
