Local student joins international missions program
Carol Saueressig, a Kansas State University student living at 325 E. 12th, has been accepted into the Focus International Missions Program through the Baptist Student Union Christian Challenge. She will join six students and two leaders in placements across China, Albania, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan with Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as her assignment. She departs June 17 after this semester and will teach conversational English during the year.

Dust storm near border leaves eight dead in accidents
A dust storm near the Arizona New Mexico border Sunday caused multiple wrecks involving 24 vehicles. Eight people were killed, at least 20 injured, including six in a truck and two in a car, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety official Bob Stein.
