April Fool's prank ends in arrest for inducing panic

Obituary for Roy Hawkins, Pomona resident, 75

Roy C Hawkins, 75, Pomona, died March 31, 2003, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. He was born May 20, 1927, in Chillicothe Missouri, and lived in Overland Park before moving to Pomona in 1976. He co owned Hawkins and O Hara Construction from 1969 to 1984 and worked at Flett Construction, Wolf Creek Power Plant, and Ottawa University before retiring in 1989. He served in the US Air Force from 1945 to 1948 and earned the Army of Occupation medal and WWII Victory medal. He married Norma Zimmer in 1953. she survives with three sons Roy, Larry, Joe, a daughter Kelly Goracke, nine grandchildren, and four brothers. Burial is at Highland Cemetery. Memorials to Greenwood Baptist Church.

Dust Control Options For Franklin County Residents 2003

Franklin County offers two dust suppression options for rock roads in front of homes. Magnesium chloride costs 375 dollars for a 300-foot minimum, about 1.25 per foot, lasting six months. Oil-based dust control costs 453 dollars for 300 feet, about 1.51 per foot, lasting nine months. Contact Public Works at 785-229-3550 and sign with payment by April 7, 2003.
