New Kansas school funding plan faces tough reception
Senate Education Committee weighed a senior Republican plan that would reduce state aid for 115 of 306 districts and raise property taxes by as much as 10 mills in several districts. The plan allows 6 percent budget increases with voter approval for larger rises, and projects $12 million more state money than Gov. Carlin proposed, with statewide tax hikes of about $30 million.
