Church League Gets Green Light By Rick Peterson
The Franklin County Churches Athletic Program will start its first season this June as nine churches commit to a church league for softball volleyball and basketball. Ottawa ministers voted March 20 to form independent leagues due to rising ORC costs with tentative opening June 3 for softball. Location unknown but not a problem, with offers of field help and possible construction by heavy equipment firms. Entry fees include 40 per team plus yearly 1 for all three sports, with ORC caps between 10 and 15 per year and softball teams paying about 85 per season.

Ottawa Relays Postponed By Weather For 39th Annual Meet
Saturday weather forced the postponement of the 39th Ottawa Relays with no makeup date set. Ottawa High coach Mark Laws cited track condition and forecast colder, rainy, possibly snowy weather as the reason. Athletic director Lyle Rutter said a future reschedule is hoped, but conflicts and spring break may delay it further. The Cyclones open their season Saturday at the Blue Valley Relays in Stanley.
