Republican AP report from Los Angeles notes Representative Yvonne Braithwaite Burke the California Democrat for the 37th District has given birth to a girl named Autumn Roxann at Queen of Angels Hospital. The baby weighs seven pounds and some ounces. Burke 41 and her husband Bill welcome their first child.
Miss World 1973 is Marjorie Wallace of Indianapolis. The 19-year-old model defeated 53 contestants to become the first American winner. Her mother bet $50, and Miss Wallace earned $7,200 prize money plus potential $25,000 in yearlong earnings from Mecca Limited. The runner up was Evangeline Pascual of the Philippines with Jamaica, Israel, and South Africa following.
