Oswego Mourns JFK Death with Interfaith Service
Oswegonians plan a 3:30 p.m. Sunday inter faith memorial in Robinson auditorium Oswego High School with Mayor Ralph Shapiro and local clergy organizing. The service includes organ prelude by Paul W. Rogers SACO faculty statements of purpose prayers by multiple pastors and choral selections with participation by St Mary's St Stephen's West Baptist Trinity Methodist and Congregation Adath Israel. Last Rites For Kennedy Held In White House East Room
President Kennedy lay in a flag draped coffin in the East Room as family and government leaders visited. Nursing Home Fire Kills 60 in Norwalk Area
A fast spreading blaze destroyed the Golden Age Nursing Home in Fitchville near Norwalk. About 85 residents were in the one story concrete building when the fire started in predawn hours. 60 patients died or are presumed dead. Fire, wind, and a propane tank fed the flames as deputy sheriffs and rescuers pulled survivors from wards. Two bystanders, Henry Dahman and Clifford French, aided evacuations before rescue crews arrived.
