With 98.4 percent counted in Washington Hubert H. Humphrey held 559,357 votes to Richard M. Nixon 517,539, 48 percent to 44.4. George Wallace had 85,131 votes, 7.3 percent, while Humphrey gained the state’s nine electoral votes but Nixon remained the national winner.
