CARE begins the Food Crusade campaign aiming to feed about 28 million people over the next year, nearly all children, across 34 countries. A Ecuadorian girl smiles while lifting a bowl of soup as part of the campaign imagery.
Ukiah California investigators press on with searches at a tree screened ranch where three bodies were found alongside a circular driveway. State official says the site may be a burial ground for the Hell's Angels while the owners George Wethern and Helen Wethern face drug and stolen property charges and remain jailed on $100,000 bail each.
In a National Day broadcast President Thieu urged North and South Vietnam to negotiate a cease fire and political settlement without U.S. participation. He called for separate talks with North Vietnam and with the Viet Cong, signaling rejection of a coalition government. The Paris cease-fire accord remains unsigned and North Vietnam has not yet replied to Kissinger’s latest negotiation request.
A CH47 Chinook crash in a flooded Mekong Delta field southwest of Saigon killed all 22 Americans aboard and left nine bodies recovered by dusk. Field reports suggest the helicopter was shot down during a courier flight from Saigon to Can Tho, with investigators examining possible causes.
President Nixon plans a four day pre election blitz with two nationwide telecasts. He will stop at O'Hare near Chicago and an Oklahoma city then Rhode Island before returning to California and San Clemente. He and wife vote in San Clemente as daughters vote elsewhere and celebrate a Tuesday victory.

He cites effective programs addressing city crisis in a paid radio series. McGovern counters with a $10 billion emergency jobs plan to reach full employment and tackle crime and drugs.
Three doctors and three druggists were indicted in Brooklyn on charges of illegally prescribing and selling dangerous drugs. Brooklyn District Attorney Eugene Gold said the doctors prescribed and attempted to sell pills without examining patients, while the druggists sold pills with and without prescriptions.
White parents at Junior High School 211 halted demonstrations today but will keep boycotting schools in Canarsie Brooklyn while negotiating the busing of black and Puerto Rican children. PTA leader Gertrude Pastenick warned demonstrations could resume if talks fail.
About 3,000 drivers warehousemen and clerks walked out shutting off liquor deliveries to stores bars and hotels in the metropolitan area. Teamsters Local 815 representing 1,000 drivers and AFL CIO Distilling Workers Union Local 1 representing 2,100 workers carried out the walkout.
El dridge Waith, New York City safety director, says a 1200 member security corps will be screened trained and assigned to schools at roughly 100 per week starting the week of November 20.
On NBC Today McGovern asserts President Thieu is obstructing a peace agreement and doubts President Nixon can secure an accord with North Vietnam. He adds his guess that Thieu blocked negotiations similar to four years ago.
A Boston police officer runs past a burning car during clashes with demonstrators outside the Commonwealth Armory. Inside, 6000 attendees paid $25 for a First Lady Pat Nixon fundraiser on October 31. Police used horses and dogs to clear the anti Nixon crowd. at least seven arrests and several injuries reported.
Several thousand antiwar demonstrators clashed with riot police outside a Republican fundraising dinner attended by Pat Nixon at Commonwealth Armory. About 6,000 inside paid 25 dollars a plate while 8,000 demonstrated outside, marching from Copley Square and blocking traffic. A car was set on fire and a police officer was hurt. Mrs Nixon spoke briefly and left by a rear door as protests continued for hours.
Syracuse police arrested Santos Bombaci and Deon Davis after they allegedly tried to sell 100 pounds of marijuana to an undercover agent. The drugs valued at about $86,000 marked the largest seizure in the city.
In federal court today Nixon campaign finance committee agreed to disclose sources of funds contributed before March 10. Consent decrees signed by U S District Court Judge Joseph C Waddy direct the committee to reveal contributors of previously unreported contributions up to March 10.
An unexpected shortage of child proof containers leads the FDA to postpone the safety packaging deadline for aspirin and certain drugs to January 22, 1973. The delay affects about 55,000 retail pharmacists and could extend to manufacturers as the supply backlog grows.

Police separate clashes while a meeting between Louis Colonna and Rev. Wilbert Miller outlines keeping races apart. A crowd of about 500 white demonstrators jeers the students from Tilden housing project. A lunch counter window is broken and a guard struck as police escort youths to the subway amid a tense scene. A Catholic school closes and Canarsie High School ends early amid fears of disturbance.
At a New York City gathering honoring his 29th wedding anniversary, George McGovern told reporters that after Nov 7 you will still have George McGovern to kick around. The remark echoed Nixon’s post 1962 California race comment and followed the presentation of a silver bowl, orange rubber gloves, wires and clamps from reporters aides and Secret Service.
