Oswego Commencement 1977 Largest Senior Class Honors
SUNY Oswego awarded 1,836 bachelor and master degrees in two ceremonies marking the largest senior class in its 116-year history. Dawn Slater urged graduates to apply learned theory to life while Kim Corcoran, perfect 4.0 senior, gave a parable driven Charge to the Candidates. The Division of Professional Studies conferred 810 bachelor’s, 16 master’s, 77 certificates. Arts and Sciences followed with 1,026 bachelor’s and 28 master’s. The event featured classic academic pageantry with gowns, hoods, tassels and a medieval Kingdom of Learning motif.

Mexico Police Sale Halted
A show cause order halted the sale of the 1977 police car and gear, set to be opened at the June 8 town board meeting. The order, returnable May 31 in Pulaski Supreme Court, was filed by Rt John T. Sullivan for Richard Williams, a former town police officer. Williams and others challenged the town’s move to hire part time deputies from the county sheriff. The town had abolished its police department last October, later hiring deputies who were removed in March amid paperwork questions.
