Driver Escapes Injury After 4800 Volt Wires Knock Down Truck

Oswego County driver Raymond E. Dillabaugh, 42, escaped serious harm when an overheard load on a Syracuse Rigging Co. truck pulled down a 4800 volt line across Route 57 in Fulton. A light pole and wires were toppled, damaging the top of the stake rack and windshield. Niagara Mohawk crews shut off power as police cordoned the scene. Dillabaugh was trapped about 15 minutes until power was restored.

President Jomo Kenyatta urged a Nairobi Charter for a new economic order at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Nairobi. He boycotted the opening. his welcome was read by an aide as diplomats noted his ire over Ferdinand Marcos's attendance.

Saloga and Norfleet Win Oswego School Board Seats

Eugene Saloga and Dr. Dennis Norfleet were elected to five year terms on the Oswego City School District Board of Education. Saloga led the seven candidate field with 1285 votes, carrying nine of eleven districts. Norfleet tallied 992 votes, edging rivals in Minetto Scriba and surrounding towns, while 942 went to Anthony J. Murabito. Incumbent William Shannon placed fourth and new term seats begin July 1. Voter turnout was 2,959 of about 13,000 registered.

Boynton Darling Re elected Caravan Wins Board Position

Fulton County election results show Floyd L. Boynton tops the Fulton Board race with 667 votes to win a second five year term. Kenneth C. Darling re elected for a third five year term with 641 votes. Vincent R. Caravan places third with 581 votes and will serve a four year term.

Residents to elect Hamilton Homes tenant representative

Hamilton Homes residents age 18 and over vote to elect two Authority seats as part of a pod ag bill plan. May 6 is the petition deadline at the Authority office with at least 25 signatures. 257 eligible voters reside at Hamilton Homes.

AIM Leaders Shot in Wagner Housing Area

South Dakota Attorney General William Janklow said Russell Means and another American Indian Movement member were shot early near a housing area in Wagner on the Yankton Sioux Reservation. Means was hit in the chest with condition uncertain. John Thomas was hospitalized in Yankton in critical condition.
