The New York State Senate narrowly approved a pot decriminalization bill by a 32 to 28 vote after hours of debate, moving toward Governor Carey for signature. The measure would make private possession of up to 25 grams a noncriminal offense with fines, while larger amounts or sale stay punishable by jail terms.
Howard E. Sutliff, long time Mexico Academy and Central School District principal, resigns to become director of personnel and contract administration in the North Syracuse Central School District at a salary of 28,500, effective August 1. Named by North Syracuse as the best qualified candidate from a field of 23, Sutliff departs after five years of district leadership noted for an expanding athletic program and modernized reading instruction.
At its meeting tonight the Oswego County Legislature may decide where to locate a new county building. Two sites under serious consideration are the Jail Farm on Route 57 and land north of the Holiday Harbor Hotel. The long history of building proposals dates back to 1974 with space studies and several referendums aimed at moving the county seat or funding a new facility.
