The June Labor Market Letter reports Fulton unemployment declined from 937 in March to 668 in May while the work force rose from factory and non factory sectors. Non factory unemployment fell from 508 to 279 as construction recalls boosted employment, with gains offset by paper and electrical machinery layoffs. May jobless totals were about 50 higher than a year ago.
The report shows food processors and building materials firms growing slower than usual for this season. Factory jobs are about 50,000 lower than a year ago, with June employment unlikely to exceed 5,300 and the 5,500 level not seen until mid July. Nonfactory firms edge up as retailers hire, with utilities and further retail expansion anticipated.
Fulton firemen were called Thursday afternoon to extinguish a blaze in a car owned by Clinton Hutchinson. The fire damaged the vehicle motor and no street address was provided.

Abrams served as editor and news director for the Arrostook Broadcasting System in Maine and was Northern Maine correspondent for the Portland Press Herald and other outlets. He has led Chambers of Commerce in Houston and Presque Isle and is executive vice president of the Norwich chamber. He is married with two sons and lives in Fayetteville. He is a Canal Museum trustee and holds several civic and church roles.

Russell Tryon American Legion Post in Altmar installed Cecil Rogers as commander and Elston Ecker Harris Kellogg Clarence Durst Norman Brown Raymond Ackiey Earl Potter George Plummer Arnold Armstrong as officers.
