The Oswego Coast Guard Station under BMC Robert J. Manners added a 41 foot vessel from Curtis Bay, the 41409, the fastest on Lake Ontario with 30 minute reach and 163 mile range. It carries a 250 gallon per minute pump and bow mounted snorkel for fire control, aided by a small 18 foot whaler in the fleet. A three man crew handles emergencies nearly twice as fast, as shown when it dispatched a dockside coal fire after city firemen could not reach the scene.

Mexico School Budget Discussed at Hearing

The 1977 78 budget for the Mexico Amy and Central School District was presented to about 125 people. The board plans to raise $685 000 in taxes, $65 000 more than the current year, and will not raise taxes by more than $3 75 per thousand. The district aims to avoid eliminating teachers while funding a public relations coordinator and administrative costs.

Lottery Winner Pleased in New York State Drawing

Mrs Mary D Hames of 126 Tallman St is the first big winner in the new style New York State Lottery in the city. She says she is in shock and plans to save for future household needs. Her son Richard, a U S Post Office employee, buys tickets for her and purchased the winning one at Bill Blums grocery at Fifth and Erie. The 63 year old retiree learned of her win Sunday and has been excited since, stating the state lottery is wonderful for the state and winners. Another Oswego area winner is Francis Dashnau and a Netherlands in the Cam American league about 30 years ago won $500 with his Stakes six tickets.

Carey Blasts Senate on Court Reform Package

Carey denounces the state Senate for failing to pass his favored court reform package. The Committee for Modern Courts, once aligned with him, declared it does not care whether the Senate or Republican majority passes any reform.
