The Dong Xoai battle ended with heavy losses on both sides. U.S. casualties rose to 3 dead, 15 wounded, and 15 missing, including eight crewmen from two helicopters destroyed by enemy fire. Civilians reported dead as government and Viet Cong forces clashed, with 150 civilians killed and extensive destruction at the district headquarters.
Governor Rockefeller warned the current Democratic led session could have placed New York in a serious mess and a national disgrace. He spoke at a Republican luncheon predicting GOP recapture of the Legislature in November and noted party shifts. The Republican State Committee elected Guy Graves Jr. as secretary. Sen.
