In 24 hours Viet Cong rockets and mortars hit over 100 allied bases and towns in South Vietnam as ground fighting left at least 464 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese killed. US casualties include dozens killed and hundreds wounded. civilians and Saigon area bases targeted.
Joseph H. Murphy resigned as state tax commissioner and was named chair man of the State Housing Finance Agency with a pay cut to 25 000 dollars annually. Gov Rockefeller kept him in state service after the resignation effective June 30. The housing agency issues bonds to fund mortgage loans for limited profit housing firms nursing homes and community development corporations.
