Investigators say up to five people may be involved in the Chowchilla school bus kidnapping and 18 hour imprisonment of students and the driver in a buried truck. Federal warrants target Frederick N. Woods IV and James L. Schoenfeld with possible additional suspects sought nationwide.

Washington police report a 30 year old cab driver, Plummer, was fatally shot on the White House lawn after scaling an eight foot fence and ignoring guard commands. The incident near Pennsylvania Avenue occurred 60 feet from the fence. The police are unsure of motive and say security procedures are under constant review.

Douglas Mark Francis and another man are held for a second degree murder hearing after state police arrest following an auto chase. The case involves the July Oswego River incident and Strout 35 of 74 W First St testified to the investigation. Bail is to be set by county court and the defendants await Oswego County Jail action.

A prolonged strike could cost up to 2 5 billion and affect 70 canneries processing pears and other fruits.
