Parish Man Loses Leg in 52-Vehicle Pileup on Route 81

Sun glare blamed in Fulton truck crash that killed father of three
A 27-year-old Michael J. Boland of Fulton RD 1 died when his sanitation truck hit a Penn Central train at the Henry Clay Boulevard crossing. Police say the sun directly over the signal lights could have blinded him. Sgt. Warren Darby supported the theory after noting the glare. Boland, traveling about 55 to 60 mph, died at the scene as the train moved slowly with 4600 tons of bauxite ore. He left a wife and three children and was to be buried at St Mary's Cemetery after services at Young and Son Funeral Home and St Anthony's.
