New Delhi reports India is prepared to hold direct peace talks with Pakistan at any time and level without preconditions. The letter to the UN Secretary General, dated February 14, urges a positive Pakistani response and follows a December war that led to Bangladesh's creation.

Affy Patterson, chief of the Tuscarora Nation, dies at Mount St Marys Hospital at 78 after a brief illness. A propane gas tank truck collided with a Greyhound bus and two cars on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Beaver Falls, injuring 22 people. Homes one half mile north were evacuated as a snowstorm hit around 7 45 p.m. Friday. Initial reports said the fuel tank remained intact.
Buffalo police report 24-year-old Robert S. Young of Nampa Idaho was struck and killed today while crossing a street in Cheektowaga. The crash remains under investigation with details unavailable.

Francis W Shea and his six sons lost their Buffalo home on February 11. The Santononi Preserve in Newcomb joins the Adirondack forest preserve after a gift to New York State. The 12 500 acre area features high peaks dense forest marshes and mountain lakes valued at 1 7 million. The Nature Conservancy purchased it from the Melvin family for 1 million and donated it with federal and anonymous support. Douglas Legg a missing boy from the Melvin family had wandered from the estate earlier, and the ceremony noted the land remains forever wild under state law.

In Rome New York two Buffalo brothers Donald Catalone 28 and George Catalone 23 were charged with possession of forged instruments after police and Treasury agents seized more than $4000 in counterfeit $20 bills at a Syracuse supermarket. They were ordered held at $50000 bail each pending a further hearing next Friday.
