Another 20 prisoners were to be released in Hanoi later today. by North Vietnamese count 379 Americans remain to be repatriated.
Nearly 15,000 Vietnamese casualties in three weeks prompt a Joint Military Commission appeal to halt hostilities. The four parties urge orders to end fighting, respect the cease-fire, and settle disputes by negotiation, excluding Article 4 on direct contact meetings. Col. Bui Tin says South Vietnam refused that clause. Commu nists won a concession on armed police reference. The outcome of the appeal remains uncertain.
President Nixon announced Saturday he will nominate L Patrick Gray III for an indefinite term as director of the FBI. Gray has served in an acting capacity for nine months since being named on May 3, the day after J Edgar Hoover’s death.
The U S dollar remained steady on the Tokyo exchange closing at 264 10 yen and unchanged from Friday while in Frankfurt it finished near the official ceiling at 2 9656 marks. European markets also showed stability as the week ended with the dollar trading strongly amid lingering volatility.
In Belfast a Catholic and a Protestant were seriously wounded in night attacks. The Catholic man was found sprawled in a car in a Protestant area with extensive head injuries. The Protestant was struck by five bullets from a speeding car while in a shop doorway.
Wilma Scott Heide, president of the largest feminist group, urged a coalition of women and minority men to employ "creative, dramatic actions" to end white male dominance. She noted longstanding affirmative action for white men, saying they were not labeled as such. The remark came at the National Organization for Women opening session in Washington.
West Germany led the field at Lake Placid as the 1973 world bobsled championships opened. Horst Floth, driving sled No. 2, topped teammate Wolfgang Zimmerer, who stayed runners up as Zimmerer’s strong start kept him near the top of the standings.
William H. Sullivan told Thai leaders there will be a Laos peace settlement soon. Premier Thanom Kittikachorn and Vice Foreign Minister Chatichai Choonhavan attended the discussion and quoted Sullivan saying there is no problem for a peace agreement in the kingdom of Laos.

The Associated Press reports a swipe of record low temperatures across New York State in the early hours, with Binghamton at minus 12 breaking a five year old record and Syracuse dipping to 11 below. The 4-year-old Andrea Spencer, daughter of Royal Bank of Canada manager Robert Spencer, was returned home after a gunpoint kidnapping at their Grand Bahama home. A $250,000 ransom was paid at a pre arranged spot but the money was collected by noon. Police, Bahamian authorities, and a wide search including air and sea vessels pursued the case.
In Buffalo a 15-year-old, Michael Hall, was fatally shot at an east side tavern after an argument over money. James A. Jefferson, 30, was charged with first degree manslaughter and illegal possession of a dangerous weapon. Hall’s half-brother Jessie Stevenson, 20, had been shot earlier in February in a related street incident.
Federal authorities broaden a national attack on films deemed obscene shown in commercial theaters. Grand juries in Memphis and Washington have indicted dozens involved in producing distributing and showing explicit titles like Deep Throat Little Sisters Schoolgirl and Teenage Fantasies. Additional indictments expected as enforcement focuses on established venues not back alley theaters.
