The Oswego area faced continued dig out as schools remained closed and many businesses stayed shut. SUCO held classes while campus staff urged car removal for cleanup. MET Robert Sykes reported 52 to 56 inches of snow from Thursday through Saturday with high winds. Hundreds were stranded in cars and sheltered in fire houses, schools and homes as state of emergency was declared.
A House Labor subcommittee voted 5 to 1 to allow most of the West Coast dock strike to continue while permitting a court to halt strikes affecting military and agricultural cargos and shipments to and from Hawaii upon AG petition. The panel rejected Nixon's emergency strike bill 5 to 3 along party lines.
Herbert Stein, head of the Council of Economic Advisers, told the Joint Economic Committee that the Nixon administration expects a rise in real demand and output of 6 percent or more, leading to unemployment around 5 percent and inflation near 2 to 3 percent by year end 1972.
The US Postal Service will deploy special mobile units in Boston today and Wednesday to help patrons mail Valentine cards. The Valentine Express units will sell stamps and accept mail on street routes across the city.
