Thieu survives Saigon attack as evacuation plan delayed
In Saigon, President Nguyen Van Thieu survived a bomb and rocket assault on the presidential palace. A South Vietnamese pilot, 1st Lt. Nguyen Thanh Trung, fled the city after the attack amid mixed claims of guilt. The defense chief called it an isolated act. two killed, three wounded. Newsday reported the U.S. delaying mass evacuation plans fearing panic, with refugees possibly headed to the Philippines before the United States. Heavy fighting and Viet Cong pressure continued near Saigon and across the Mekong Delta, while U.S. forces reinforced in the region.

He now lives in Oswego with Jim and Marnie Parry who adopted him through Holt International Children Services. The Parrys discuss difficulties and costs of international adoption including legal work, travel, and fees averaging around 1500 dollars. They note many Vietnamese orphans are from mixed American and Vietnamese families and require medical care and supportive homes.
