Titans Claim WSUC Track Title At LaCrosse Meet

Oshkosh State Titans piled up 93 points to clinch the Wisconsin State University Conference track championship at La Crosse. Star performances by Stan Mathes Tim Duex Myles Strasser and Bill Oaks fueled nine first places and six new meet records as Warhawks trailed by 23 points.

Mecom seeks Rozele ruling on M Taylor deal

New Orleans Saints owner John W. Mecom Jr heads to New York with officials to resolve compensation for Green Bay’s loss of Jimmy Taylor. Stars set for 800 mile Memorial Day auto race

Indianapolis is hosting the List annual 800 mile Memorial Day race with 33 starters posting a record 164.173 mph average. Notables include Graham Hill England and Jackie Stewart recovering from setbacks, while Mario Andretti led all qualifiers at nearly 149 mph. Foreign entrants Jochen Rindt Jim Clark Dennis Hulme and Dennis Hulme joined, along with Roger McCluskey and Jerry Grant among top qualifiers.

Cakans WSUC Champ shared title at Platteville

OSU tied Whitewater for the WSUC tennis crown as Vilas Cakans of Oshkosh State won the singles title by defeating Craig Adelman of River Falls 7-5 6-0. Whitewater doubles champions Reiy Maier and Pete Mueller defeated OSU’s Tom Yelich and Galen Johnson 6-3 9-7 for the doubles crown.

Bleckinger Claims Big Ten Tennis Title for Wisconsin

Oshkosh’s 19 year old Bleckinger became Wisconsin’s fourth Big Ten singles champion by defeating Michigan State’s Chuck Brainard 8-6 8-3 in the final at Ann Arbor. Wisconsin finished fifth in team standings as Michigan State topped Michigan 134½ to 130. Bleckinger’s rise includes Canadian junior title and Wisconsin junior titles.

Manty Edges Oshkosh For Tennis Title

Manty high school wins Fox River Valley Conference tennis meet on Appleton courts, finishing second to Manitowoc in team totals with 28.5 points to Manitowoc’s 29. Oshkosh scores include Sam Stecker’s 6-4 6-1 victory at number three singles, Allen Dierickson reaching finals before losing to George Mills, and the doubles team of Bob Luedike and Craig Gibbs losing in the finals to Manitowoc’s Bank and Mertz 7-5 6-4. Colonial National Invitation: Stockton Wins, Coody Second

Pointers Milton Begin 3 Game NAIA Playoff

Stevens Point State University and Milton College meet in a best two of three NAIA district 14 baseball series for the right to enter regional play. The Pointers split a doubleheader with Whitewater, winning game one 1-0 and losing game two 4-2 to claim the WSUC title.
