Washington June 28 a house subcommittee report recommends dismissal of United States Consul Wm H Michael at Calcutta and Thomas Morrison clerk of the state department after investigations into the day portrait voucher. Michael formerly was chief clerk of the department.

Washington D C June 28 Adherents of Senator Lorimer testified before the senate committee investigating his election with two lumbermen from North Tonawanda New York and Buffalo New York denying knowledge of any raised fund. Edward Hines Chicago lumberman was barred from the room as the panel weighs the scope of his role in Lorimer’s victory. Witnesses Culver McKnight and Tilden offered conflicting recollections about Hines remarks and the money allegedly tied to Lorimer’s 1909 election.
Hartford June 28 The Senate rejected a resolution to ratify the proposed constitutional amendment giving Congress power to levy and collect income taxes. The vote was 0 to 0 or likely against ratification, ending the measure in this session.
William G. Gilmore of Arbuckle Brothers testified in the House sugar trust inquiry that Arbuckles hit the American Sugar Refining Company with drastic price cuts in West Virginia and Ohio in 1898 99 to win exclusive wholesale contracts. He said the retaliation extended to a Toledo coffee plant aimed at destroying the package coffee business, costing Arbuckles about 1.25 million.
Charles W. Morse the New York banker serving a federal prison sentence for violations of national banking laws was denied a writ of habeas corpus by District Judge Newman. The judge ruled that ten years of Morse's fifteen year sentence could be considered as served and that he had not yet completed the term, preventing further inquiry at this time. Morse plans an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
A Wisconsin special from Marinette reports Sheriff Sahwittay raiding saloons outside Milwaukee destroying three slot machines and a roulette wheel. Saloons owned by Fred Liberty Charles Soward and Charles Hitchen were raided and a Peshtigo disorderly house with four inmates jailed. Raids linked to last Saturday’s train wreck.

He urged Congress alone to decide, while pledging to back efforts for lower duties elsewhere. Senator Bristow of Kansas criticized Taft as not reflecting GOP majorities in or out of Congress.
The United States and France exchanged ratifications in Paris, completing a treaty modernization that extends extraditable offenses. Ambassador Bacon and the French foreign office finalized the agreement, replacing the older convention with a framework covering a broader range of offenses.

Twelve year old Kleinhann, linked to Mata Hoes and Mildred Bridges, is sent home due to reluctance to testify. Mildred hugs her father in court while defense cites threats and seeks exclusion of confessions.
Lawyers for lumber companies opposing Missouri's ouster suit questioned John G B White of Kansas City, former president of the Southern Lumber Manufacturers association now Yellow Pine Manufacturers association, about records and evidence of output curtailment discussed at manufacturers meetings. W K Smith of St Louis, secretary of the Yellow Pine group, appeared under orders with extensive records. The hearing was overseen by Special Commissioner Reynolds.
A group of Oshkosh residents including city school teachers plan to attend summer school in Madison. Rudolph Suukup A L Brigham and A E McQuarrie have already gone. C Cross and Fred Flanders will take courses in manual training and ag alternates. John Challoner and Glen Pelton also linked to the study plan. I Yate Franklin school principal will pursue physical education courses.
Neenah Wisconsin June 28 the new water fountain at the Neenah hotel corner is a striking feature at night a large glass globe houses an electric light the fountain replaces an older model. The city plans to finish three more blocks of South Commercial street pavement by July 1 but rain delays push the completion date. The wedding of Miss Babcock and Ira Hough is set for tomorrow at the bride's parents home. Dr J H Tippet of Appleton attends the Neenah Methodist church quarterly conference this evening drawing a large crowd. Mrs BK Grove hosted a party for Miss Willmer of Chicago in her home. Opening of the new Eagles hall is expected to draw many with a Military band performance. City council will elect a new board of education member at the next meeting as J J Teutenesger declined to serve. Frank Kellogg Jr. shows improvement after being run over by a auto truck Saturday.

Edwin Hanscher married Miss Tilsle Embs in a Tuesday ceremony conducted by Rev. M. Jr. Clifford. Attendants included Miss Eisle Embs and Mary Louise Frank as bridesmaids, with Henry Embs and Matthews Hess as groomsmen. Bride wore a pearl crown and embroidered dress, carried a white rose bouquet, and wedding dinner followed at the Embs home. The couple will reside at 219 West Lincoln Avenue.
The Fifth artillery stationed at Fort Sheridan began a 300 mile march to Sparta Wisconsin today. The gunners will be in camp three months at Sparta. National guardsmen from Wisconsin Illinois Michigan Ohio and Iowa will join them later for instruction.
Maison Wisconsin June 28 The assembly passed Senator Thomas bill authorizing Chippewa and Blambeau Rivers Improvement Co to study a reservoir system to conserve water power amid dry summers. A partial repeal of the Sunday law was enacted to allow perishables selling on certain roads. Senate approved two key measures including labor and statistics department consolidation with the industrial accident board and creation of a two state public affairs board. The university appropriation bill was anticipated later.
Milwaukee June 28 President Kiram N. Suger of Chi capo urged strict adherence to a high code of business ethics and public welfare at the North American Grain exchanges council opening session. He praised the Chicago board of trade anti corner rules and private elevator stock disclosures. He lauded the grain improvement committee as a pivotal part of a nationwide reform effort.
New York June 23 Joseph B Reichmann former president of the Carnegie Trust company was found guilty today of making false statements to the state banking department The jury deliberated an hour and a half The verdict rests on a false report regarding the Carnegie Trust companys condition on August 31 Reichmann faces sentencing next Friday unless the court grants a motion for judgment and remains free on a $10 000 bond

United States Senator Francis E. Warren of Wyoming secured a license to wed Miss Clara La Baron Morgan of this city. The ceremony was set for today. Warren listed his residence as Cheyenne and his age as sixty seven. Morgan is thirty five and a daughter of John Sanda Morgan.
Madison Wisconsin June 28 Mrs Edi Chynoweth Rogers wife of Alfred T Rogers Republican national committeeman and law partner of Senator La Follette died in the general hospital last night of pneumonia following blood poisoning She was thirty five years old and had been married one year She was the daughter of the late Herbert W Chynoweth once a prominent Wisconsin lawyer and for years taught in Madison High School
