Police and National Guard restore order after a weekend riot in Laconia New Hampshire. About 5 000 rioters attended a national AMA road race. 40 jailed for violating the Riot Act as cars toppled and buildings burned.
A Laotian military official said North Vietnamese troops and supplies are crossing through Laos along the Ho Chi Minh Trail to South Vietnam in increasing numbers. Brig. Gen. Thao Ma, commander of the royal Laotian air force, noted the rise during the last two months and said it appears to be growing steadily.
The Rum House at Hotel Edison plans to halve its ice cube water use as drought relief. Staff say all rum drinks use ice cubes made of 1 4 part rum and 1 4 part lemon juice, conserving water citywide.
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey returns from Paris with a report of a fruitful visit to President Charles de Gaulle. He planned to brief President Johnson on Tuesday after a three day Gemini mission for McDivitt and White, amid U S French strains over Vietnam.
President and Mrs. Johnson returned today from Camp David in Maryland where the family spent a long weekend at the presidential retreat.
In Saigon reports from AP and US spokesmen describe air strikes on North Viet Nam and ground clashes near Da Nang. A U S Marine was killed and three wounded in a clash 10 miles west of Da Nang, the 417th American killed in Viet Nam since 1961. Guerrillas suffered several deaths and injuries in the same engagement as pilots reported damage to bridges, barges, and a staging area near Vinh and Thanh Hoa. Navy air strikes hit Moc Chau barracks near Hanoi and other targets. An estimated two Viet Cong companies attacked a government outpost about 50 miles northwest of Saigon, killing 11 soldiers.
Four survivors of Friday's collision of two B32 bombers returning to base on Guam have been flown back to their unit, the U S Air Force said. The loss left seven men listed as missing after the South China Sea incident en route to a target in South Vietnam.
President Johnson signs a 4.7 billion excise tax repeal taking effect Tuesday, with another 1.75 billion cut on January 1. The move aims to lower prices and boost purchasing power during a long economic expansion, as showroom and storekeepers prepare refunds and inventories. Auto and telephone tax cuts continue to 1969, shrinking duties on cars jewelry and electronics.

The Associated Press reports weekend Wisconsin highway crashes killed at least 15 people, raising the 1965 toll to 392. Victims include Merlyn Bennett, 22, of Couderay, who died when his car left the road and struck a pole, and Fabian Basina, 36, a Red Chiff native living in Duluth who was struck on Highway 13 north of Bayfield. Betty McBeth of Fresno died from injuries after a Sunday collision at highways 12 and 10 in Jackson County. driver Robert Richardson, 28, of Minneapolis, was not injured.
A heavy rain storm with gusty winds hits Oshkosh on Sunday noon, causing boater rescues on Lake Winnebago. A houseboat near Butte des Morts Bridge was stranded in shallow water and four rescuers rowed to bring three couples ashore. No casualties reported despite numerous debris and downed tree limbs.
Strong winds and heavy rain swept Wisconsin Sunday causing a Madison fatality when a car lost control in a rainstorm near Waunakee. A Milwaukee man was struck by lightning and hospitalized with minor burns. Hail, wind gusts, and power outages disrupted La Crosse, Madison, Platteville, and Prairie du Chien as a 252-foot radio tower swayed and a station went off air.
Bernard M. Baruch, capitalist philanthropist and longtime adviser to presidents, died Sunday night of a heart attack at age 81. His death ends a career marked by wealth and influence, with tributes from Vice President Humphrey and notable figures including James F. Byrnes and Thurman. Baruch, born in Camden, South Carolina, had been ill for a week and was with family at his bedside when he passed.
In Algiers crowds gather in downtown with chants for Ben Bella as Boumedienne’s government governs. Police dispersal follows a Sunday night march by about 200 Algerian Student Federation members, with some arrests and nearby protests continuing into the night.

Sheboygan AP reports a weekend at Road America where 53 arrests were made among about 85 to 90 sheriffs and deputies. Charges included disorderly conduct property destruction failure to disperse and drunkenness. One deputy was struck by a beer can but returned to duty.
