Colgate Girl Kristin Williams Crowned Alice in Dairyland

Kristin Williams of Colgate Wis crowned 1967 68 Alice in Dairyland in Green Bay. She will tour Wisconsin as Ambassador of Good Will for the State Department of Agriculture while continuing studies at Wisconsin State University Oshkosh. The 21 year old twin sister Robin and boyfriend Stephen Grishaber attended the ceremony. Williams plans to become a high school English teacher and begins duties with a press conference before touring.

Bridge Suits Are Dropped To Allow Oshkosh Bridge Expansion

Madison AP reports a State Supreme Court case and a circuit court suit were dropped, clearing legal barriers to a $689 million project to add a second parallel causeway to the U S 41 bridge over Lake Butte des Morts in Oshkosh. The agreement enables state signing of the contract and bid opening, despite initial injunctions from two Lake Butte des Morts residents.

Reds Launch Venus Probe

Moscow reports the Soviet Union launched an automatic interplanetary station named Venus 4 toward Venus. The four month flight began at 5:40 am Moscow time after a staging from an Earth satellite orbit. Venus 4 weighs about 1,106 kilograms and is designed for autonomous operations.

End To Drama Ends With Safe Landing

A small plane running low on fuel faced an hour of flying time left. FAA air traffic control in Minneapolis routed aid from the American Can plane flying from Minneapolis to Oshkosh. Through coordinated talks, the Bonanza landed safely at La Crosse airport. Captain G. C. Miller described the effort and the 13,000 foot position when the call came.

Dozen Injured In Tampa Riots After Police Shooting

A mob of about 400 spurred by a police shooting roamed two Tampa slums burning white stores and looting. At least a dozen injured, including 10 whites, and a deputy sheriff died of an apparent heart attack as police and National Guard faced gunfire and bricks. By dawn, fires were out and streets littered with debris. Governor Kirk and NAACP leader Robert Gilder commented on the violence and response.

Claim 10 MIGs Over Weekend

U S pilots claim they destroyed or damaged 10 MIG jets on ground near Kepair base northeast of Hanoi over the weekend, raising total MIG losses to about 115 since bombing began.
