Supreme Court Adjourns Historic Session

The Supreme Court concluded an eight month term by agreeing to rule on the constitutionality of federal loans and grants aiding municipal power plants. It adjourned until October and left unresolved the Electric Bond and Share Company case challenging the 1935 holding company act. Justice Willis Van Devanter retires after 6 years, plans Maryland time.

ITT Mann Third in Race at St. Louis and Don Rae Cup Winner

In St Louis air events Tex Rankin won the title flying a Wing Monoplane scoring seven points. Alexandre de Panama of the Brazilian air force placed second with 269.4 points and beat Paul Mantz by one point. Don Rae, 1936 American air pilot, received the J D Brockley prize for outstanding show piloting after guiding his disabled racer to a safe landing despite crashes. He endured injuries but left hospital to collect the prize. Gotch of Los Angeles won the 50 mile race with Marion Een from Santa Monica second J Wittman of Oshkosh third Rudy Kling of Joliet fourth.

House Overrules Roosevelt to Extend War Risk Insurance

The House overridden President Roosevelt's veto to extend for five years the war risk term insurance for World War II veterans. Rankin said failure to pass would force over 20,000 veterans to drop coverage, as about 2,000 policies expired yesterday and more than 17,000 will expire by July 1.

Senate approves naval vessel construction bill sets six ships

Washington reports the Senate passed without debate a bill authorizing six naval auxiliary vessels at an estimated cost of $48,000,000. The approved authorization permits a seaplane tender destroyer tender mine sweeper submarine tender fleet tug and an oiler and moves to the House for action.
