Major Ramon a Franco, once jailed Premier aviator, is named among leaders in the revolt at Jaca near the French border. Madrid reports a nationwide military uprising amid labor unrest, with 3000 infantry and artillery at the frontline and censorship imposed on radio and telegraph.
Dr. Albert W. Beaton led a protest at the Interdenominational Men's Congress in Cincinnati denouncing Sinclair Lewis for winning the Nobel Prize in Literature. He warned that such honors fuel attacks on the church, as delegates from 22 Protestant sects gathered to discuss adapting the church to modern times.
Washington reports 21 railroad labor organizations favor a shorter work day and week after a three day conference. D B Robertson of the Brotherhood of Railroad Firemen and Enginemen urged prompt action but gave no specifics on how to secure the reduction.

Washington reports the death of Lee Slater Overman of North Carolina at age 76 after a sudden illness and two internal hemorrhages. He served 28 years in the Senate since 1903, held key war powers legislation, and was a leading Democratic figure. He died with Mrs Overman and daughter Mrs E N Snow by his side.
Shelva Randolph, 19, held in Janesville on extradition for two armed robberies in Illinois and Iowa. He escaped Pinckneyville jail last April 15 with seven others, was recaptured in the Salvation Army hall, and waived extradition.
In New York two brothers saved money in socks a cotton sock and a woolen sock. A fire burned both and the ashes were sent to the treasury. The treasury identified 330 dollars of 340 in the wool sock while the cotton sock money was too far gone.
Louis Silor 35 died at a hospital after an explosion and kerosene flare inside a kitchen stove lit his clothing. His children Lida 10 and John 9 suffered severe burns while James 7 and Mrs. Silor were unhurt. fire forced out about 15 residents, welfare workers later handled the displaced family.
The Daily Herald condemns Winston Churchill for his India speech in the Commons calling for greater autonomy under round table processes. Liberal News Chronicle and Liberal figures condemn the remarks as wicked while the Conservative Post praises them as patriotic and forcible. The Tory Telegraph defends the speech as corrective to lax thinking since the round table conference.
A Milwaukee report quotes the Wisconsin WCTU arguing that resuming beer would threaten dairy prosperity. The statement claims beer restoration would reduce milk sales by 75 percent, citing a leading milk dealer, and credits Prohibition with boosting milk use in several ways.
In Appleton Wisconsin archeologists report bones from a monster unearthed by dynamite at a Sherwood quarry. The bones are unusually large and locals cannot identify them with Wisconsin farm remains. Oshkosh city reports about four hundred unemployed men given temporary relief work. Projects include street widening on Hazel and Pearl, breakwater and shoreline work, quarry labor, tree removal, brick cleaning, and sign installation. Pay ranges from 45 to 65 cents per hour for eight hour days, with focus on aiding families and using seasoned workers.
Mrs. Helen Cain of Sheboygan, aged 92, recalled Civil War aid to the Union and spoke at a Wisconsin Prohibition Reform event against the dry law. She urged repeal or modification, arguing liquor has existed since ancient times and will persist despite prohibition. The report notes cloudy weather and daily observations from the Thuckstaff Observatory with temperatures in the mid thirties.
Followers of Rev. George Longnecker redrafted a petition asking Neillsville city council to empower police to enforce prohibition laws. The council rejected the original form saying penalties were too high and disapproved including families possessing liquor for home consumption. The petition demanded fines from 100 to 1000 dollars for a first offense.
Alvin Fenny of Alma Center was held on a 2500 dollar bond after waiving a preliminary hearing on manslaughter charges. Christine Peterson 15 died after a truck struck her and Esther Knutson 16 while walking home from school. Knutson had minor injuries.

He also backs ZRS-5 dirigible construction and a west coast air base at Sunnyvale, California.
