Odd Bits reflects autumn moods in Nebraska as crops ripen and frosts loom. The column recalls Harvest Moon lore, a bride’s baking mishap with dough buried to rise, football pride for the Bulldogs and Cornhuskers, and a kindergarten cap caper ending when a girl friend spoke.
Raymond M. Hauser Jr. of the David City office states that in fiscal year 1972 the office approved 1 641 230 dollars in loans to 93 borrowers across Butler Polk and Seward counties. Outstanding loans total 7 286 673 dollars to rural families.
Osceola defeated Stromsburg 8-0 on Monday night as Dale Roehrs threw for 261 yards and a touchdown to Daryl Nelson and Jeff Johnston. Osceola dominated early field position but produced the winning drive in the final minutes with 1:15 left, capped by a Roehrs to Nelson TD pass and a 2 point conversion. The Bulldogs totaled 352 yards to 30 for Stromsburg.
The annual Cub Leaders Pow Wow for new and seasoned leaders will be held Sunday October 1 from 2:00 to 5:00 at Immanuel Lutheran Church York. Additional sessions October 15 and 29 at York Lutheran Church run 2 to 5 p.m. for leaders committees and parents. The Round Table October 5 at 8 p.m. at York Lutheran focuses on November activities.
The Polk County Historical Society met on September 19 1972 at St Vincents Hall Osceola for its annual banquet and officer elections. Sixty three attendees heard reports from officers and enjoyed a musical program by Ruth and Rachel Bachenberg with accompanist Mrs Maurine Schuman. Kenneth Stewart and wife shared experiences in Russia from a 1970 banking trip. Officers named Mildred Flodman president Doris Grossnicklaus vice president Nina R Burke secretary and news reporter Philip Nyberg treasurer.
The Jan Grossnicklaus family held Sunday supper at the Holly Grossnicklaus home and observed the birth days of Mr and Mrs Jan Grossnicklaus. Mrs Sara OBrien moved from Geneva Hospital to Heritage Home in Geneva.
