Road meet at Wahoo pushes paving of No 16

A large Polk County delegation attended a road meeting in Wahoo called by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. The push is for immediate paving of No 16 from Clarks to Wahoo to relieve traffic on No 30, with some towns along No 30 opposing but supporters optimistic. Governor Cochran supported improving No 16 previously and the paving is expected soon.

Rotary Club hosts farmers at Polk County banquet

At the Hotel Rapp in an evening event the Rotary Club entertained about twenty Polk County farmers. Ivan Wood of Lincoln, extension service representative, spoke on practical irrigation for Polk County farms. Bert Gurney of Omaha and Robert Graham of York also spoke.

Rural Electrification Loans Funded for Polk County Farms

REA allocates 5,000 dollars for Polk County farmers to wire their properties. Loans are repayable in at least two payments per year, for one year at 6 percent interest. Progress notes include 125 mule teams digging holes, 50 miles of poles set, meters contract approved, two boxcars of wire expected, and rapid wiring of farm ends to be ready for electric current.

October CCC Enrollment Cuts Age Range in Nebraska

On September 30 a large number of juniors enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps nationwide will be released due to new eligibility rules. Applicants must be 17 to under 24, with up to two years service. October enrollments are taken at NERA representative R. L. Anderson in Osceola Court House Nebraska.

Stromsburg Woman Dies After Highway Crash

Mrs. H. H. Weaver, 65, of Stromsburg, died after being struck by a car driven by Mrs. W. M. Scott on Highway 81 near the town. Scott, returning from Linesin, did not see Weaver due to lights and a dust bank. Weaver died at a York hospital at 10 30 p.m. Interments followed in Stromsburg Cemetery.

Wesley Chapel Club meets as community notes spread

Widening of Platte River Bridge Nears Completion

Platte river bridge on highway 14 south of Central City rapidly nears completion. First concrete for the permanent floor to be poured early this week. About 20 men employed as old railing and roadbed are removed and rebuilt with gravels, binders, and a six to nine inch reinforced slab.
