Polk County Faces County Agent Funding Battle

Since 1926 Polk County has had no money for county agent work. In September 1928 farmers filed for a one fifth mill levy from the county general fund to support county agricultural work via the county farm bureau. Over 500 signers back the plan, while a counter remonstrance asks commissioners to reject it. If allowed, the issue goes to the general election. otherwise the funds may be kept in the general fund with no 1929 levy. The per-farm cost is minimal, about 1.53 dollars on a 160 acre farm, aided by 1200 dollars from the Smith Lever Act, with other states receiving more. If Polk loses this money, another county gains it.
