Mrs. Orval Ekenhorst is Osceola community chairman launching Oct 4 to 8 for Prairie Hills Girl Scout Council. The drive aims to raise 7000 for new troops training volunteers Camp Crossed Arrows near Fremont day camps in 18 locations staff and office facilities. Vickey Thayer John Osenbaugh and Steven R. Johnson from Osceola pledged to area sororities and fraternities at the University of Nebraska last week.
A two car head on collision west of Seward on Highway 2 34 sent Mr and Mrs Robert Sterup of Benedict their 18 year old daughter Carol and Betty Satchell 45 of Bayard to Seward Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition. Carol suffered a fractured jaw and Mr Sterup abrasions while Sally Ann 11 was not hospitalized.
Rain showered across Polk County last week adding about four inches to the seasonal total of 28 inches. Temperatures dipped toward autumn, ranging from 51 to 82 degrees as a series of daily readings are listed for September with precipitation totals and normals through September 30.

Supt Virgil Bugbee reports total enrollment at Aas School is 483 with 341 in grade school and 142 in high school. Grade breakdown ranges from 45 kindergartners to 43 seniors, showing steady enrollment similar to last year. The Goldenrod Saddle Club held its Sept meeting electing officers and a new board, with plans for a horse show at the fairgrounds on Sept 19 and a public invitation.
Osceola loses 14 to 0 at David City as Bulldogs seize early control. Osceola's defense stifled several David City drives, with notable plays by Marquis and Smalls, while David City racked up 93 rushing yards and two second quarter scores. Coach McKeever eyes Goldenrod conference opener Friday at Stromsburg.
