GOP Fund Raising Dinner Plans Now Complete

Plans for the Polk County Fund Raising Dinner are complete to be held in Stromsburg on Monday Sept 12. State office holders from Lincoln will attend along with a representative of Senator Carl Curtis. Ralph Beerman of South Sioux City the GOP candidate for Congress from the Third District will headline. Tickets are on sale in Osceola and at the door. The dinner is at the Stromsburg Legion Club starting at 7:00 p.m.

Local Lady’s Mother Dies After Lingering Illness

Mrs. Floyd Loftis age 57 of Arlington Nebraska died August 29 after a lingering illness. Services were held September 1 at the Congregational Church Arlington with interment in Herman Nebraska cemetery. Mrs Maribeth Sall Appointed Otoe County Extension Agent

Mrs Maribeth Sall is named the new Otoe County Home Extension Agent and began duty in mid August. A University of Nebraska graduate she majored in home economics and extension work and trained in Adams and Hamilton counties. She spent eight years in 4 H Club work and is the daughter of D E Powell of Stromsburg. Her husband studies agronomy and plans to commute to the university.

Former Osceola Couple Marks Fifty-Seventh Anniversary

Mr and Mrs I S Noble of 220 North Boggs celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. He is 81 and she 77. Married in Buffalo County on August 31 1903 the Nobles now live in Grand Island after 18 years in Osceola. They have three children two daughters and one son plus three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Board of Control Approves Higher Welfare Payments

The Board of Control in Nebraska ordered up to a 10 percent increase in welfare payments for aged, blind, and disabled recipients effective October 1, affecting about 11,600 people. The total hike totals 553,743 dollars from state and county funds over the remaining nine months of the current biennium. Maxima remain unchanged for those in nursing homes or receiving the maximum payments. The board is reviewing maximums with possible legislative changes for 1961.
