A report from Polk County Treasurer Carleton Anderson shows 324 new drivers licenses issued on September 1. The two year period total reached 4563 licenses. The first day count was just under ten percent of expected total issuance, with last Thursday’s figures covering in person and mailed licenses.
Raymond E. Palmer becomes official court reporter for Polk County and the Fifth Judicial District Nebraska succeeding George Hopkins. Palmer served in WWII Air Corps, then for Judge Landis seven years and last three years for Judge Spencer in Lincoln. He and his wife and two sons will move to Wahoo.

A two car crash seven miles west of Osceola on Highway 30A killed Esther May Lutrell 72 a passenger in a vehicle driven by L T Estes 66 of Chapman Nebraska She died from a severe head injury Bedie Scott 56 of Grand Island injured Judith Anderson 35 teacher at District 7 School suffered lacerations and shock All involved were taken to Grand Island hospital with injuries Officials said the crash occurred when Anderson's car entered Highway 92 and collided with Estes car Investigating trooper A Jenson assisted by Willard Clark Sheriff Willard Cornell and deputy Leroy Johnson

LaVern Richards, son of Mr and Mrs Morris Richards and Wesleyan University senior, receives an Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship worth 150 dollars. It is the first such award at Wesleyan and is given to a senior man with a similar one for a senior woman.
Chris Huggler, 92, longtime resident, died Tuesday evening at Osceola Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at two o'clock in the afternoon at the Funeral Home with interment in Osceola Cemetery.
Albert Ryan received word this week of the death of his brother George E. Ryan on September 4. He was 92 years old and had been residing at Fullerton, California.
Mr. and Mrs. Rex Watts announce the birth of daughter Starla Linn Watts born Monday September 5 at Osceola Hospital weighing seven pounds 15 ounces.
Elmer Peterson of Wausa died suddenly from a heart attack on August 18 while visiting California. He was 71. Burial was in Wausa Nebraska. He was the father of Mrs. Marlin Johnson of Osceola, with the Johnson family caring for the Peterson farm in his absence.
The Polk County WCTU annual convention is set for Tuesday September 13 at the Baptist Church in Polk, beginning at ten oclock. A devotional service by Rev White of Polk a memorial service by Mrs Arthur Ekstrom of Clarks a temperance sermon by Rev Robert V Johnson of Osceola a child welfare department presentation by Mrs John Falk Stromsburg and an address by Mrs Charles Rothenberg of St Edward will be part of the program. Members are urged to attend and visitors are welcome to both sessions.
The Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital Fund reaches 2750 dollars after a 1000 dollar gift from Mr and Mrs W S Heitzman Osceola. Previous donations came from Mr and Mrs Guildford Bryan and sons W R Kepner and Perry N Sapp. Funds will outfit rooms and other areas with plaques available for donors. board members may accept gifts.
