James Williamson’s load of cement shifted when he stepped from his truck on a soft shoulder. The heavy truck bogged down as a road grader operator prepared to assist. The truck slid and toppled, throwing six tons of cement from the hopper. a Blai wrecker and broken cables finally pulled it free after over half an hour. The St Paul city council enacted a stricter ordinance targeting out of town peddlers who skip taxes and local support.

Osceola Opens School With One Hour First Day
The opening day will run from 9:00 to 10:00 a m with all other sessions resuming Tuesday for the usual all day schedule. City Buys Land To Extend Present Cemetery Grounds
Osceola City Council began steps to enlarge the cemetery by purchasing land east of the current grounds. The 3 6229 acre parcel, measuring 220 feet by 716 feet, lies adjacent to the south parcel owned by St. Vincent Catholic parish, at $300 per acre. The new tract will add space for an additional block and drive.

Driver's License Exam Schedule Is Revised Again
The schedule for October November and December shows examinations at the Osceola courthouse on October 14 28 November 26 and December 9 23 mornings. Owen J Boyles assistant director says the revision expands statewide exam dates within a four week period and the June 1 schedule is obsolete and should be destroyed.

About thirty Polk County farmers and wives traveled by chartered bus August 30 to Lawrence Kansas for the Open House Barbecue and Dedication of the farmer owned Co op Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant built at a cost of about 16 million dollars. Nearly 20 000 farmers and wives from nine states were expected to attend. Mrs Imm Injured In Auto Accident Near Silver Creek
Mrs Oscar Imm is hospitalized in Columbus after an auto crash near the John Mickey farm one mile west of Silver Creek road. Oscar Imm and George Burritt drove two cars colliding at the intersection. Mrs Imm suffered a broken leg and eight rib fractures. she had surgery in Columbus and is progressing.
