James McKeag was severely injured when a corn wagon collapsed while descending a hill near Osceola. He fell under the team, suffered broken ribs and internal injuries, and was taken to the Wm. Campbell home in Osceola for care.
Gilbert Hotchkiss returns home from York hospital and will seek further treatment soon. Mrs Hotchkiss progresses well. Mr and Mrs G W Morgan of Spalding visit Mrs Morgan's parents. Miss Marie Willetts from Archer attends county teachers institute and teaches locally. Rev Carl Herrmann and family sail October 2 for the Philippine Islands mission. Fred Miller trades property east of Bartlett for Berek quarter. W C Pike and son Harry visit York for medical care and travel. Lumber for airplane construction noted as Sitka spruce and silver spruce.

Anton Iwan died at home in the valley on Saturday afternoon August 28 at age 84. Born in Poland he came to the United States 45 years ago with his wife and family, settling in Polk County. He leaves fifteen children, fifty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. four sons and eleven daughters, with eleven living children listed in Polk and Merrick counties. Funeral service was at St Marys Catholic Church Monday August 30 at 10 am, Rev Kasparek officiating, burial in parish cemetery. He was an early valley settler and respected.
