A wealthy farmer Alderian Pitts was shot and killed in a melon patch near Murfreesboro Tennessee on August 22. Six buck shot struck his head. An unknown gunman is suspected. Charles Wright is jailed in Chicago for embezzling five thousand dollars from Fred James & Co. Insurance agents. He confessed blaming gambling. Near Albert Lea Minnesota on August 21 thieves stole four horses two buggies and harness. a $300 reward is offered. In Edgfield Washington DC on August 24 J W Bussard and son and J W Trimmerran were involved in a deadly double barrel shotgun incident. Wm H Current killed his brother in law James S Offal in Paris Kentucky on August 23 after Offal threatened Current and harmed Mrs Current. Orange Texas reports Sheriff Mitchell was wounded by negroes aided by white men on August 17. a posse responded, shooting two negroes, hanging three, and capturing several others. Military men are involved in unsettled actions.
Report from County Limerick on August 23 describes a riot as villagers stoned police and officers charged the crowd. Emperor’s disfavor of anti Jewish agitation noted and authorities took measures to curb further riots.
